The Critical Reading Process that aligns curriculum to the CCSS is a practice that continues to challenge teachers and students. In order to measure proficiency in the process, assessments are used in various methods and instructions.
To culminate the Critical Reading Process used in the Prehistoric Romeo and Juliet Critical Reading Lesson, I designed a formative assessment that addressed the different components of the critical reading process. Using multiple choice and short answer questions, students were tested to see if they were able to locate the information needed to answer each question.
By providing students with opportunities to assess their learning through formative assessments, teachers are able to gauge their teaching effectiveness and make adaptations to lessons accordingly. This serves as a self-evaluation for teachers and can also provide important data analysis that guides teaching and learning.
